Fixed Point Theory, Volume 19, No. 2, 2018, 557-570, June 1st, 2018 DOI: 10.24193/fpt-ro.2018.2.44 Authors: Jesús Ferrer and Enrique Llorens-Fuster Abstract: In 1987 P.K. Lin found a fixed-point free selfmapping ƒ of a closed convex subset of the unit ball of l2. Here we point out some remarkable features of this mapping. In particular we will show that if |⋅| is any equivalent renorming of l2, then ƒ is not nonexpansive with respect to |⋅|. Key Words and Phrases: Fixed point, nonexpansive mapping, normal structure. 2010 Mathematics Subject Classification: 47H10. Published on-line: June 1st, 2018.
